Upcoming events and signings for Bitter Sweet:

Thank you, readers of Bitter Sweet. The book has generated much interest since it came out February 15, 2023–as I have mentioned previously, I am promoting the book and telling the story in honor and in memory of ancestors who died in the Holocaust, and in honor of my husband who didn’t get to see the finished book. His delicious food photography of my great-grandmother’s family dishes does much to enhance the text, as do his hours of research on WWI and WWII.

Please join me, in person or on zoom, for the following events. My presentations consist of a talk and a slide show based upon the documents I uncovered in the small black suitcase, and also, my great-parents’ and my mother’s hometown of Châlons en Champagne, a charming town in the heart of the Champagne region, 2 hours south of Strasbourg, which I was fortunate to visit in May 2023. I saw all the sites that Dr. Prosper Lévy, my great-grandfather, a decorated army surgeon (in WWI) , mentions in his journal. I am still processing this emotional experience…A kind gentleman t the Châlons en Champagne public library, where I gave a talk in French to 100 attendees, drew up my Alsatian family tree going back to 1782… I was elated to find I have a long family history in Alsace Lorraine.

Events in the United States!

September 6 to September 13, 2023: Book tour to Anchorage Alaska, where I was hosted by my dear friend Kaylene Johnson-Sullivan, an award-winning writer/publisher who specializes in the history and travels in Alaska (and her husband, Bill). You can view Kaylene’s books here: https://www.kaylene.us/books/

September 7: The Writer’s Block, Anchorage, Alaska, a charming bookstore/cafe. writersblockak.com

September 8th: Congregation Beth Shalom, Anchorage; www.frozenchosen.org

September 9: The best restaurant in Palmer, AK. TURKEY RED, dinner, presentation, and book signing.

I presented my previous memoir, Mint Tea and Minarets at Turkey Red 5 years ago. And I tasted the BEST MOROCCAN meal (based on recipes in my book) I have had in the US. It turned out that the chef, Jalal, was trained in the culinary arts in FEZ, Morocco gastronomic capital! I needn’t have worried. . Chef Jalal was here again this time, and cooked recipes from Bitter Sweet. I am flattered that Turkey Red may feature some of Blanche’s recipes on their restaurant menu.
