My father lived in Morocco for 50 years and he was among the first to explore the Kasbah Trail. One of his favorite oasis was Erfoud and neighboring Rissani, site of a huge fossil field. This table, however, he purchased from a local fossil expert. This size slab, rarely seen outside Morocco, and now my coffee table, is quite rare, and in Morocco is usually found in banks and hotels. It comes from ERFOUD. We used to visit the quarries, and simply pick up fossils. The slab is part of my father’s estate. It is studded with Orthoceras, a prehistoric squid related to the modern day squid, nautilus, and octopus family, and other prehistoric sea creatures.

The slab rests on a hand crafted, ornate wrought iron frame set on four curved legs, with a perimeter of leaves under the slab. The frame was custom made for the table, and is very heavy. I cannot ship this item, though, if you are interested, I can put you in touch with a local moving company.
